1948 Studebaker Champion Convertible

Howard Jones
Santee, CA

Howard's cool 1948 Champion Convertible, that he calls a "Studeolet", is powered by a Chevy 350 V8 TPI engine backed with a GM TH350 automatic transmission. A major feature of this car are the Lamborghini style doors. They were converted from a kit but required major work. The A pillar had to be removed and completely rebuilt. Howard added the 1950 Bullet Nose front clip and hinged the hood so it would tilt forward. He also added a Mustang II front end and moved the battery to the trunk.

Inside are swivel seats that allow for easy entry with the doors up. It has a tilt wheel and white face analog gauges were added to the instrument cluster. Modifications to the outside include removal of some extra trim items and the front bumper. Howard added lake pipes, rear fender skirts and LED lighting in the grille. The exterior color is Corvette Speedway Blue. The car was built frame-off and the attention to detail shows.
